BATUBULAN VILLAGE
Cheap accommodation in Kuta ranges in style
Batabulan is part of the artistic area of Gianyar and like Ubud, it is a art village and has a vibrant culture of Balinese Hinduism and expression of the Balinese life through the arts of painting carving and creating amazing parades and costumes. Batabulan is famous across Indonesia and the rest of the world as begin one of the best places to witness the Barong dance that supposedly originated from this very village. Barong is one of the main Balinese Gods that is separate from the Hinduism followed around the rest of the world. The Barong Dance involves the making of the Barong which is a large hobby horse style float that is carried and has a very distinctive and haunting look, it is one of the main symbols of Bali and is definitely worth witnessing when over here. If you are staying in Ubud or any of the surrounding area then it is a very short trip and as for those staying in the south it is incredibly easy to find by first using the bypass road and then driving through the beautiful district of
Gianyar. Located around an hour’s drive from the international airport and about half an hour from the centre of Denpasar it is an excellent day trip or part of a daytrip exploring the eastern regions of Bali.
Perhaps the easiest way to enjoy the village of Batabulan is to book onto a tour where you will be guided around some of the highlights f Gianyar and using a professional company with professional Balinese Guides who know and understand the areas very deeply and can give some of the most interesting information on Batabulan and its surrounding areas of interest whilst showing you the best areas taking care of all the driving for a very efficient trip packing lots into your day. Such trips are very cheap indeed and invariably include pick up from you hotel anywhere in Bali, comfortable air conditioned transport, a packed lunch or restaurant lunch and the return trip to your hotel.
The dance takes place every day in five stages across five holy areas and temples located within the villages of Batabulan and its surrounding countryside. The dance is accompanied by the playing of the traditional Balinese instruments such as the Gamelan and the small wooden xylophones that can be heard in the streets and on all the Balinese Beaches along with small bamboo fifes. The sound is very distinctive and is an excellent compliment to the fantastic energy of the dance and the eastern beauty of the island.
The village has some amazing markets to walk round where you can find the artistic products of the village as well as foods and spices and other items. The market here is very cheap and includes stone carvings, wood carvings, paintings and other Barong related articles. There are also some of the equally as popular and even more sinister Kacak dances that can be seen in the evening.
