DENPASAR CITY
Cheap accommodation in Kuta ranges in style
Denpasar is the capital city of Bali and is located in the south of the island in between Sanur and
Kuta. Denpasar is home to approximately 491,500 people which is one 6th of the entire population of the province of Bali. Denpasar was originally a market town and to this day the traditional markets encapsulate the pulse of the atmosphere and feel of
Denpasar. Famous for the Balinese Batik fabrics that can be purchased in their fabric form or garments such as sarongs of clothing and are pure cotton and other items and foods, the vibrant markets are still true to this day and definitely worth a visit. Every Indonesian area has its own style of Batik and the Balinese batik is vibrant and colorful making for excellent shirts and sarongs for summer where. Another great market area is in a sub town called Celuk located only 30 minutes from Kuta and is the jewelry district where you will find reams of silver and goldsmiths organized in rows offering some amazing jewelry at very low prices.
Denpasar is a great place to visit if you are staying in the south of Bali and it is possible that you may wish to visit the area out of necessity for its amazing facilities or to purchase an item that is either useful for the holiday of a bargain to take back home. Please do not be misled by the Ngurah Rai international Airport that is often referred to as Denpasar Airport or
DNP, the airport is actually in Tuban which is just south of Kuta and only 30 minutes away from the centre of Denpasar itself.
Some travel guides state that Denpasar has nothing to offer in terms of a tourists visit, this is entirely untrue, ok you will not find a white sand beach in Denpasar but there are plenty of amazing areas hidden away that represent ancient Bali within this modern town. You can see some of Bali’s most important temples, grandest palaces and mansion and rich markets as just a few of the sights. If you wish to visit the area then the method is to take a day trip organized by a professional tour operator, this way you are sure to see the main sights including some of the largest art galleries and museums in the area. some of the areas of interest include the Puputan Square with the incredible Catur Mukha Statue, Pasar Badang is one of the best markets to visit with an array of foods, artwork and curios all on five floors or one of the many temples and palaces. The main temples are Pura Jagatnata Temple, the oasis of peace that is Pura
Maospahit, or the elaborate palaces of Pemecutan or the royal palace of Satria.
A visit to Denpasar is a fantastic way to spend a day if you are staying in the south of Bali and it does not involve a long trip to get there, Denpasar represents the marriage of the traditional values of the rich Balinese culture and modern life.
