Indonesia has 17.508 islands and become the fourth most populous country because the population is over 234 million people. Indonesia is led by a president who is elected every 5 year. The first president of Indonesia was Soekarno. Now, the president of Indonesia is Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.As archipelagos country, Indonesia consists of many islands that have different ethnic, linguistic, and religious groups. There are around 300 distinct native ethnicities in Indonesia, and 742 different languages and dialects The largest group are Javanese and the majority of them are Muslim. Indonesia is influenced by foreign powers since it becomes the important trade region since about sevent century. Indonesia has developed a motto to unite the distinctive that is called “Bhineka Tunggal Ika” which means “unity in diversity or many but one”. Indonesia consists of 33 provinces and five of them have special status. Five of them are Aceh, Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Papua and West Papua. The largest islands are Java, Sumatra, Kalimantan (the Indonesian part of Borneo, New Guinea (shared with Papua New Guinea), and Sulawesi. Each province is divided into regencies,and the small division is village(desa or kelurahan). The largest cities are Jakarta, Surabaya, Bandung, Amedan and Semarang. Puncak Jaya in Papua is Indonesia's highest peak, and Lake Toba in Sumatra its largest lake, with an area of 1,145 square kilometers (442 sq mi). The country's largest rivers are in Kalimantan, and include the Mahakam and Barito. When the tourists travel to Indonesia, they will meet tropical climate, and archipelagic geography. It has 2 seasons, they are raining and dry season. Unlike another place which has 4 seasons, the tourists who come to Indonesia can see the sunshine every year. They can also see the flora and fauna that is the mixture of Asian and Australasian species. When we talk about Indonesia, the first name appears in people’s mind is Bali island. It is not denied that Bali is the fmaous island throughout the world. Yet, Indonesia still have many beautiful places to visit besides Bali. There is a huge Buddhist temple located in Central Java, there is also another place to dive located in Bunaken, the best scuba diving destination in Indonesia and other beautiful places such as Mount Bromo, Tana Toraja and Lake Toba. All of them are located out of Bali. Since Indonesia consists of many ethnics, the culture varies to each other. They have their own culture. For example, wayang kulit (shadow puppet) is usually performed by Javanese. The dances and the cuisine also varies to each other. Yet, Indonesian people usually eat rice combines with meat and vegetables. In relation with Visit Indonesia Year (VIY) 2008, Indonesian government has urged provinces in Indonesia to be ready in facing it. This program is aimed to introduce another places out of Bali and to attract tourists to visit them. This program is very important because tourists, especially from abroad lack of information about those places. They only know Bali as the tourist destination in Indonesia. This program need each local government to prepare their facilities in facing it. Actually, tourism in Indonesia is very important since it has two major components needed in tourism industry, they are nature and culture. It has 300 different ethnic groups and 250 distinct languages, and tropical climate throughout the year.
