KLUNGKUNG REGENCY
Cheap accommodation in Kuta ranges in style
Klungkung is the smallest of the Balinese districts and is situated between Gianyar and Karangasem in the lower east part of the island. Klungkung includes the two islands of Nusa Penida and Nusa
Lembongan, which are of the most tourist interest in the Klungkung area. The town of Klungkung is a busy vibrant town with much to see and is worth a visit if you are nearby. Klungkung town is the location of the Kertha Gosa that is the hall of justice and is noticeable by its surrounding moat and incredible architecture of the distinctive and unique style. Inside you will also find the wall and ceiling paintings that have made Klungkung famous. Located just next to the Kertha Gosa is a palace with a floating pavilion and baring the distinctive styling and paintings that illustrate the sacrifice story of the hero
Sutasoma.
Also in the mainland area there are the famous bat caves where extremely large bats can be founding their natural caves and can be seen covering the skies at sunset. Also there is a collection of excellent museums and temples that are worth visiting if you are spending any time in the area. Nusa Penida is the smaller and less visited sister of Nusa Lembongan and offers some amazing sights both above and below the water as well as some
un-crowded surf spots and amazing temples and villages that although are Balinese, are very different to the mainland’s villages. Nusa Penida was once the exile ground for Bali’s least wanted criminals, which may have contributed to its lack of visitors. This is merely a fact of history and in the same way the Australia was first used in the same way by the British, the island is a safe and actually extremely beautiful place to visit.
Nusa Lembongan is the larger island and has a thriving tourism industry that is mainly owned by some of the more successful companies in Bali and used as a cruise stop off or as a second resort. These are mostly located on the north coast of the island where there is also some of the worlds best dive spots and 3 excellent waves for experienced surfers only and one of which (Lacerations) is considered the best
'right hander' in Indonesian and many, the world. The island is not fertile like Bali and although there are many trees and woodlands there is little rice culture. The main crop is seaweed that creates a patchwork coastline just underneath the clear waters that are calm and beautiful. These seaweed farms not only produce surprisingly delicious treats but also a
slightly view from the cliff top resorts. The rest of the island is very traditional and if you go to Nusa Lembongan then you should definitely visit at least of these and go to the traditional markets to experience the vibrant atmosphere and barter for a sarong or a carving. Although Klungkung is the smallest regency in Bali, it is one of the most diverse and most interesting.
