Puri Saren is the main Palace located in Ubud and is one of the most royal and amazing buildings in Bali. Around the area of the Puri Saren Ubud are beautiful Balinese traditional houses that belong to some of the most important and influential families in Bali. Puri Saren is located in the very centre of the Ubud village and its past residents were the people responsible for the presence of the painters’ communities and the carvers of the area that both started in order to serve the Royals of
Ubud.
It is no wonder that the royals choose Ubud as the place for there palaces as it is without doubt one of the most amazing and beautiful areas on the island with the most amazing rice paddies and ancient trees that are the habitats for the monkeys that are conserved now in protected areas of
Ubud. Also there are some amazing valleys and fantastic temples in the area not to mention the thriving culture that puts on some of the most elaborate religious displays in the entire island.
Ubud to day still retains its royal feel and it is places such as the Puri Saren Ubud which is the main palace that have been the heart and driving force behind what Ubud has become. Today there are some of the best restaurants in Bali many of which have the open minded and experimental minds that is what Ubud has been all about, drawing inspiration form the beauty of the area. The Puri Saren Ubud is the residence of the Ubud King and is located very close to the traditional market. Founded by Tjokorda Putu Kandel who was in command from the years 1800 to 1823, the Puri Saren Ubud is equipped with a full auditorium and other large meeting rooms for political discussion. It is also here that many of the most important meetings in Balinese history toke place during various invasions.
The Puri Saren Ubud makes an excellent visit for anyone staying in Ubud or anyone who is traveling through the area. It is important to have a rounded trip around Ubud and see all the different aspects, today the Puri Saren Ubud is incredibly well kept as a museum although there are still royal residents who reside within its grounds. There are some excellent restaurants located in this area offering all kinds of food but you may wish to sample some of the Balinese delicacy that is Babi Guling which is a roasted suckling pig cooked in Balinese spices and is a very pleasant dish. This are is one of the best places to purchase Babi Guling and it is not at all an expensive dish however it is usually a little more than most Indonesian food.
With an interesting history and a vibrant surround atmosphere including the painters market, the Puri Saren Ubud is a fabulous day out and can be couples with picking up some very cheap artwork and see the other attractions of
Ubud.
