Comment: Putri Ayu is nicely set back from the crowded, loud streets of Ubud and provides the pleasantly peaceful view of rice fields and the volcanoes in the distance (on clear days). From our rooms we could hear the ceremonies from the Monkey Forest play late into the night in the distance. This made for a magical and unique experience. The deluxe room we stayed in was nicely kept with a beautiful traditional Balinese vaulted ceiling. The breakfasts made by Dayu were simply a treat to enjoy every morning for a week - it topped some of the fancier hotel breakfasts that we had on the island. Dayu and the staff did everything in their power to ensure that we had a pleasant and comfortable stay from helping to make phone calls, coordinating our motorbike rentals, and taking (not just directing) us to a local tailor and getting us a great (local) price for tailoring a kabaya. No, it's not a 5-star hotel by Western standards: laundry takes ~1.5 days for them to do (as they warned us), there's no gym or restaurant, sometimes ants appear in the bathroom (only to be swept away later that day), and, yes, the ducks get let out far too early in the morning to let anyone sleep in. But, hey, it's easy to imagine the ducks sounding like joyous laughter and if any of it bothers you, then feel free to pay 3-4 times more elsewhere. Bottom line is that we were quiet happy to stay at Putri Ayu for a week of our honeymoon and probably will again the next time we're in Ubud.
